The YC is a multidisciplinary dance/performance company founded by Creative Director Kate Wallich with Co-Director Lavinia Vago in 2010. We are driven by the idea of embracing
our youth. We overly indulge in pop-culture to create worlds masked with
glittery imagery and youthful bliss while juxtaposing harsh realities and
unchanging truths. We use cinematic structuring, synthesized sound, and
architectural movement to create dance performance, film, and installations evoking worlds that radiate euphoric lifestyles. The YC is current, speaking of
our generation in ways that are heart wrenching, truth telling, and sometimes
Our work has been most notably presented/commissioned by On the Board’s NW New Works Festival and 12 Minutes Max, Velocity Dance Center’s Next Fest Norwest and Fall Kick Off/Big Bang, Cornish College of Arts, Northwest Dance Project, Reverb Dance Festival NY, Bumbershoot, City Arts Festival and The Seattle International Dance Festival. The YC has received creative development residencies with Velocity Dance Center and The Robert Rauschenberg Foundation.

KATE WALLICH creative director+choreographer / Kate Wallich is a choreographer and dance artist based in Seattle, Washington. Kate received her training from Interlochen Arts Academy and holds a BFA Magna Cum Laude from Cornish College of the Arts. She has danced and been mentored by artists Tonya Locker, Zoe Scofield (zoe|juniper), and Danielle Agami (Ate9). Kate has received creative residencies with The Robert Rauschenberg Foundation in Captiva, Flordia and with Velocity Dance Center in Seattle, WA.
LAVINIA VAGO co-director + dancer / Lavinia Vago is a dance artist from Italy. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Cornish College of the Arts. She had the honor of working with great artists such as Tonya Lockyer, KT Niehoff, and Zoe Scofield. Lavinia performed with Sidra Bell Dance New York, and toured internationally with Korhan Basaran and Artists. She is currently working with Rubberbandance in Montréal, and Loni Landon Projects in NYC. Lavinia is co-director and dancer with The YC.
LENA SIMON sound designer / The instrumental/electronic music of composer Lena Simon builds space and atmosphere by means of sound. In composing for dance, she usues a mixture of manipulated acoustic sounds and short, looped samples by means of lo-fi recording techniques. In collaboration with Kate Wallich, Simon uses the choreography as her primary resource and in past works has also sited Arvo Pärt, John Cage and Ryoji Ikeda. In addition to composing for dance, Lena has worked/recorded with such musical greats as Jovino Santos Neto’s quintet and Jarrad Powell’s Gamelan Pacifica. In the pop music world, she is a founding member of three active bands (Annabel Lee, Pollens, and Tomten) the latter having recently performed at Menningarnót Culture Night Festival in Reykjavík, Iceland. Lena graduated with a BM in Composition/Performance from Cornish.
JACOB ROSEN cinematographer / Jacob Rosen is a Cinematographer born and raised in Lewiston, ID. He recently lensed the 2012 Fly Film ‘CB’ Directed by Nathan Williams, which premiered at the Seattle International Film Festival in June. His work has been shown at SIFF, Local Sightings, and One Reel festivals; along with fashion blogs, including Norway based Paranaiv. Jacob regularly collaborates with Seattle based choreographer Kate Wallich; they are currently in development on their third short film. He is also working on video instillations with Seattle based artists zoe|juniper for their upcoming show at City Arts Festival. Jacob has photographed a number of Feature Films, Short Films, Commercials and Music Videos, and has worked along side and mentored by filmmakers Lynn Shelton, Benjamin Kasulke, Dayna Hanson and Michael Ragen.
ERICA BADGELEY dancer + creative collaborator / Erica Badgeley is a dancer, choreographer, performer and GYROTONIC instructor. She holds a B.A. in Dance from the University of Washington and spent time dancing in Germany, the Netherlands, London, and Sweden. Erica received her training from Pacific Northwest Ballet, Cornish College Prep, LINES Ballet BFA Program, San Francisco Conservatory of Dance, and Springboard Dans Montreal. She currently dances for The YC and Ate9.
ANDREW BARTEE dancer + creative collaborator / Andrew Bartee is from Everett, Washington. He studied on scholarship at Paciﬁc Northwest Ballet School and attended summer courses at Paciﬁc Northwest Ballet School and the School of American Ballet. He was the ﬁrst recipient of the Flemming Halby Exchange with the Royal Danish Ballet School and a 2007 Princess Grace Award recipient. Mr. Bartee joined Paciﬁc Northwest Ballet in 2008. In the past two years Andrew has created works for PNB’s NEXT STEP choreographers's showcase, The Seattle International Dance Festival, Ballet Tuscon's Roots of Choreography Showcase, and Velocity's Fall Kick Off. Andrew performs regularly with Whim W’Him, Kate Wallich, and The YC.
MATT DREWS dancer + creative collaborator / Matt is an interdisciplinary movement artist from Colorado. He explored yoga and somatic psychology at Naropa University, and received his BFA in Dance from Cornish College of the Arts. He investigates a wide spectrum of movement modalities with a heightened lens toward healing, presence, and ritual. He has studied GaGa, the movement language of Ohad Naharin, at its source in Tel Aviv, Israel. He has worked with Portland based tEEth and Danielle Agami's Ate9 dANCE cOMPANY. His mentors include Alia Swersky, Kate Wallich, Tonya Lockyer, and Wade Madsen. Matt is currently collaborating with Saint Genet, WOOD Performance, and The YC in Seattle.
